BETWEEN CITIES - TUSSEN DE STEDEN
Khrystyna Kovtun

12 personal stories of Ukrainians who were forced to leave their homes because of the war and begin a new life in the Netherlands.

Artist statement

The project presents twelve portraits of people currently living in Amersfoort and area. Each portrait combines a present-day image with fragments of their hometowns in Ukraine that were damaged or destroyed by the war.

By merging these two visual layers I reflect the emotional state of living between places: between past and present, between memory and reality, between the home that was lost and the temporary life that continues.

The project is both a testimony of loss and a story of resilience, showing how people carry their cities and memories with them wherever they go.
